SOUSCC 45

Posted on Mar 24, 2017 by Derek Wilson

It was the largest SOUSCC ever, with more than 135 speakers and almost 200 participants, some of which were from institutions like Ottawa and Nipissing that don't normally participate in the SOUSCC. Thanks to the enormous efforts of an intrepid administrative team led by Nicole Chevannes-Mcgregor, a panel of 24 judges led by Cristina Lento and a dedicated group of undergraduate organizers from the CHEM CLUB, the event was an unqualified success.

We had *11* parallel sessions in Analytical, Biomedical, Organic, Inorganic and Physical chemistry, with a total of 20 *cash prize* winners. The judges were unanimous in their amazement at what some of the young talent (now very aware of York as an option for graduate school) had achieved, and at the level of research being carried out in general.

Here are some photos from the event:

Our own Dr. Voislav Blagojevic give a rousing keynote talk about entrepreneurship after training in chemistry that I've no doubt sparked some ideas amongst the young crowd of chemists.

Our three undergraduates proudly represented the Wilson Lab (left to right): Xiaojing Huang, Richard Pulgarin, and Lisa Szymkowicz.

Fun times were had at the banquet - congratulations to all the winners and a special thanks to all the organizers, judges and participants!
